Gold Medal of the City of Seville

On 15th April 1971 the Junta de Gobierno learned that Seville City Council had awarded the Santísima Virgen de la Esperanza Macarena the Gold Medal of the City of Seville.

On the following 5th June, the Gold Medal was officially presented to La Virgen de la Esperanza by the Mayor, Juan Fernández Rodríguez y García del Busto on a stage erected for that purpose in the Plaza de San Francisco. The image of the Virgin had been carried there in procession, and after the ceremony it returned to the Basilica of La Macarena accompanied by the entire population of Seville, arriving there at four o’clock in the morning.

On the way back, the paso of La Virgin went into the Church of Montesión. La Hermandad de la Virgen del Rosario later had a plaque unveiled in commemoration of the event.
